Travertine, a form of limestone, is one of the most popular natural stones used in residential and commercial projects worldwide. The holes found in the stone are due to carbon dioxide bubbles that became trapped during the formation of the stone. Travertine can have a honed or polished finish, the holes can be left unfilled or can be filled, and depending on how the stone is cut you can have a cross-cut (more swirly appearance) or vein-cut (more lineal look) to the stone.
Travertine is used on walls, floors, fireplace surrounds, vanities, shower walls, tub decks and as pavers. Most commonly found in colorways ranging from white, light beige, cappuccino, gold, light walnut, silver to a dark walnut/mahogany.
Travertine tends to be an affordable stone predominantly quarried in Turkey, Italy, Iran, and Peru. In the Southwest, travertine applications are sought after most for their cool-to-the-touch feature and adaptability to many decors from the stone’s natural color hues.
